Chris Fonteijn

Chairman, Authority for Consumers and Markets, Netherlands

Chris Fonteijn has been chairman of the board of the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) since 1 April 2013. Prior to this, he was chairman of both the NMa, since July 2011, and the OPTA, since 2005. He sat on the board of BEREC (Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications) between 2008 and 2011, and chaired BEREC in 2011.

From 1980 until his appointment as chairman of the Commission of the OPTA on 1 September 2005, Chris worked as a lawyer at NautaDutilh in Rotterdam, where he was made partner in 1988. At NautaDutilh he specialised in Business and Energy Law, and over the years held a variety of positions. For several years he worked for NautaDutilh in the Middle East, and during his last years with the firm, Chris was director of the energy and utilities group.

Chris studied law at the University of Leiden, the Netherlands.
